The Internet makes available information from many agencies and organizations. Chemo Sabe lists many and we've listed our favorites below.
The primary sites you'll want to begin with are the national cancer societies, foundations and government agencies.
American Cancer Society - The Society also offers a toll free hotline (800-ACS-2345) which provides information on all forms of cancer. Use the site's "In My Community" section to find activities or resources in your area.
National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Cancer Information Service (CIS) - Hands down, the place to begin for basic information. NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health and is the Federal government's agency for cancer research. CIS provides accurate, up-to-date information on cancer to patients and their families. There are specific pages for clinical trial information. Access to the Physician's Data Query (PDQ), a database about cancer treatment, as well as additional information on treatment, screening, prevention, supportive care, and clinical trials are also provided.
WebMD - This is an indispensible site, and you can begin on their Home Page's Search engine. Enter any form of cancer or drug name or medical term and you'll be presented with an amazing reading list of current material.
The Bloch Cancer Foundation - Richard Bloch, co-founder of H&R Block, is a cancer survivor who shares an inpiring, common sense, positive attitude about being diagnosed with cancer and getting on with treatments to overcome it. This site is rich with personal and readable articles for patients and their supporters. We recommend the "Info for Supporters" tab of the site; you'll find a comprehensive, no-nonsense discussion of what it means to be a Personal Advocate. It will inspire you to be a Chemo Sabe!
National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) - NCCS works exclusively on behalf of people with all types of cancer and their families, and is dedicated to assuring quality cancer care for all Americans. The Cancer Survival Toolbox is an audio program with practical help in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
